Genovese Ashford Studios recently photographed Amy and Nathan’s wedding at Huntsville State Park near Houston, Texas! Amy and Nathan chose to do a “First Look Session,” where they would both see each other for the first time before their wedding ceremony in a more private and intimate setting and have us document that portion for them, and then proceed to take wedding day portraits of the two of them so that this portion would be completed early on. By choosing to do a “First Look Session” Amy and Nathan were able to save considerable time, particularly during their reception, as not only were we able to take our time getting beautiful portraits of the two of them but we were also able to get a large portion of their family and wedding party group portraits completed as well!
Selecting a location and setting for the “First Look” is important. Most importantly the location must be somewhat secluded or isolated so that the emotions and candid interactions of the “First Look” are not ruined by bystanders or wedding guests. Since another benefit of a “First Look” is in the aesthetics, particularly being able to capture the moment that the bride and groom see each other for the first time in a picturesque setting, the location chosen should be an ideal one. Typically we’ll get ideas from our clients beforehand so that we can collaborate on this moment in the timeline, and then we’ll arrive early enough on the day of the wedding that we can scope out and select the perfect spot before we actually begin any shooting.
Once the candid moments of the “First Look” are complete we’ll work with our couple to get beautiful portraits of them in as many different settings and backdrops as possible. Since there is not a rush to complete this portion so that our clients can get to their reception we are generally able to take our time with this, creating an ideal scenario to get the best results possible. We usually recommend about 30 minutes for a “First Look,” and when it’s possible we usually follow this with group and wedding party pictures. In many cases we’re able to get all of the photographs typically done after the wedding ceremony completed beforehand, allowing our bride and groom to get the party started as quickly as possible!!

Congratulations to Amy and Nathan, and we wish for them a lifetime of happiness together!!
